What is Earned Run Average Calculation?

Earned runs can be multiplied by 7 for softball and 6 or 7 for little league games. It generally evaluates a player’s performance overall nine innings and also counts the time he has been pitching.

Therefore, earned Run Average determines the efficiency of a pitcher in a much more precise way than a simple win-to-loss ratio. But if any defensive wrongdoing takes place during the game, the player doesn’t gain any run, and it is not taken into account for ERA calculations.
