On-base plus slugging (OPS) is a sabermetric baseball statistic that counts the total of a player’s on-base percentage and slugging percentage. An elevated OPS refers to a batter that gains more on base.

What is On Base Plus Slugging?
The on-base percentage does not value the quality of each hit, while the slugging percentage concentrates on the quality of each hit.
An OPS of 0.900 or higher than that keeps the player in the upper level of hitters. Generally, the league leader in OPS will score higher, sometimes more than the 1.000 marks.
What is the purpose of OPS?
- To count a player’s On Base Percentage
- To value a player’s Slugging Percentage
- To show the overall On Base and Slugging percentage of a player
- To evaluate a player’s performance
